Horrible Bosses film focuses on a trio of employees who plot to murder their titular tyrannical. Aniston played one of the bosses, a sexually aggressive dentist who harasses Charlie Day's character.

Markowitz based the character on a former boss, claiming her to be "very sexually aggressive with everybody". On choosing Aniston for the role, Markowitz continued "but [the aformentioned boss] looked more like Cruella De Vil. It was like flirting with a cobweb. So I decided for the sake of the movie, let’s go with Jennifer Aniston.” When writing the script, Markowitz intended the role to be for Aniston. Aniston insisted on dyeing her hair brunette for the role, wanting to look different from other characters she had played in her career.
As of August 30, 2011, Horrible Bosses film has grossed over $170 million worldwide. The film opened to positive critical reception with several critics praising the ensemble cast with each lead being singled out for their performances across reviews. The plot received a more mixed response contrasting reviewers who felt it was dark, funny and explored its premise well with reviewers who felt the jokes were racist, homophobic and misogynistic.
